Just in the last few days I have heard from a few different women who have
new babies (< 6 months) and who are about to travel overseas for a couple to
a few weeks to adopt a child and are leaving the baby at home while they go.
They have been asking for advice on how to maintain a milk supply and  get
the new child breastfeeding (unlikely to be quick- older babies). I am
trying hard to picture how they could entertain the idea and what disasters
might occur for them while they are away from their baby in terms of their
breasts let alone the milk supply when they are in a developing country. I
can't imagine that they have talked this over with their HCPs (one would
hope not, to be even considering it). Anyway, if any of you come across
families who are in the process of adopting when they have a child join
their family via birth it might be worth asking them if they are plans for
when they travel to adopt and discuss this with them.
