I have seen some situations where there is obviously colostrum in
the shield after nursing in the first day or so. When a white to
yellowish liquid is pooled in the shield, that's not just baby's
saliva. If I don't see this, I will definitely have mom pump and
any drops she obtains are given to baby, often dripped in the baby's
mouth much like giving drops of medicine.
