"For the more adventurous or those who like color photos, 'Women giving birth'
which is the English translation of a Dutch book called 'Baaren', about
birthing in upright positions, by Saskia Rees, the late Astrid Limburg and
Beatrijs Smulders, is one of my favorites. Not much about breastfeeding but
beautiful birth pictures. Since they are mostly at home and many with sibs
present it will not be for everyone, but I love it."

I have this book and love it, and while we can all agree that I am far from the American mainstream, I think such books speak to women in a visceral way and as such are fabulous to recommend. After all, we birth in our bodies, not in our heads. Two similar books and favorites of mine are Sheila Kitzinger's "Homebirth" and "We Are All Water Babies" by Michel Odent.

A list I posted recently for moms on a board I moderate is:
"Immaculate Deception" by Suzanne Arms, Birth Reborn" and "We Are All Water Babies" by Michel Odent and I cannot wait to read his new book, "The Farmer and the Obstetrician", "Birth As An American Rite of Passage" by Robbie Davis-Floyd, "Spiritual Midwifery" by Ina May Gaskin, "The Thinking Woman's Guide to A Better Birth" by Henci Goer, "Pursuing the Birth Machine" by Marsden Wagner, "Homebirth" by Sheila Kitzinger, "The Secret Life of the Unborn Child" by Thomas Verny and "Babies Remember Birth: And Other Extraordinary Scientific Discoveries About the Mind and Personality of Your Newborn" by David Chamberlain.
