Anecdotally, I have had one mom who had a history of gastric bypass. She
had difficulty gaining weight during the pregancy, but delivered a average
size term infant. Baby initially nursed well, but failed to gain weight
appropriately. Unfortunately, due to scheduling mix-up, baby's follow-up
occurred with my partner instead of me, who has very little practical
knowledge about helping the breastfeeding dyad. She suggested formula
supplementation at age 2 weeks and baby was fully weaned within a few weeks.
Since I didn't get the chance to evaulate mom and baby until about 6 weeks,
I'm not sure if there was a garden variety reason for poor weight gain, or
if the gastric bypass played a role.
