Brilliant post, Cynthia, and great research.   My only disagreement is that
sound bites do work.   I love the bites:

"We are talking about sunlight deficiency not vitamin D deficiency."

and further,

"Recommending vitamin supplements made by formula manufacturers implies that
their formulas are complete and breast milk endangers babies."

I contend that the incomplete, unscientific thought processes of the AAP are
partially encouraged by the amount of money given the AAP by these same
manufacturers.   I'd guess countless tens of thousands of mother will stop
nursing because of this reprehensible new "policy."
