When treating nipple vasospasm with warmth, place a bunch of uncooked rice
in a (clean) sock. Microwave on high for a minute or two. The sock holds
*and retains* heat for quite some time. Mom can warm her nipples
immediately before, and after, each feeding (without getting up!)
This is also DRY warmth. Using a warm, wet compress is counterproductive
because as the skin evaporates off the moisture, it gets chilled! If Mom
only has a warm wet washcloth at her disposal, she should place it inside a
baggie so there is no wetness on her skin as she warms.
