I agree with Valerie that the AAP statement to supplement all bf infants
with Vit D is only supporting the industry, and I object very much to using
the tri-vi-sol combination due to the vit A and C which are also
supplemented. We have no evidence that these extra vitamins are needed or
indeed if it is safe to add them to an infant diet. And I am very worried
that babies can be overdosed on vit D. Vit A and D are both toxic when too
much accumulates in fatty tissues. Infants have immature systems. I think
infants will seldom need supplementation and should be evaluated on an
individual basis. And parents need education!
I am looking for vit D only supplements, and not finding a suitable one
yet.
