This is a little late, but perhaps still in time to be useful.
Oxcarbazepine is metabolized differently from carbamazepine, totally
**eliminating** the production of carbamazepine epoxide, which is the
metabolite which can accumulate in children (long half life) and which
is responsible for most of the side effects of this drug.
Therefore, trileptal should be even safer than tegretol (carbamazepine),
which is AAP approved for breastfeeding mothers.
