Lisa, I am delighted to know that you and Sue Donath have published a new
article demonstrating (in a very large cohort!) the importance of mother's
prenatal intention to breastfeed.  One of the reasons I want to go back to
Australia (for the ILCA conf this Aug) is that I was just blown away by how
smart everyone was in OZ, and what amazing work was going on.

In Texas, we are working hard on legislation to create a designation of
Breastfeeding Friendly Physician -- aa award that serves as sort of carrot
to get physicians to talk to pregnant women and to encourage them to make
the decision to breastfeed.  The Lu study in 2001 Obstetrics & Gyncology
talks about the effect of physician encouragement on women's decision, and
your new article confirms that this decision is critical to both initiation
and duration.  So we do need to attack cultural institutions to try to get
more women to make the decision prior to giving birth.
