The New York Times has published a brief, positive review of "The American
Academy of Pediatrics New Mother's Guide to Breastfeeding" edited by Dr.
Joan Younger Meek with Sherill Tippins.
...
> "Breast milk," the authors say, "is such a rich, nourishing mixture that
> scientists have yet to identify all of its elements."
>
> The book leaves little about breast-feeding unanswered, including discussions
> of various positions used and the immunological and psychological benefits.
>
> The authors also address whether adopted infants can be breast-fed, saying
> that while drugs to enhance or induce lactation have not won federal approval,
> a few prescribed for other reasons may work, along with some herbal
> preparations.
>
> Most medications, the authors write, are safe to take during breast-feeding,
> as is moderate consumption of caffeine and alcohol.
