"As far as I know, there is no useful test for the presence of Coxiella
bacteria, and it's particularly difficult to grow in culture. Diagnosis
rests on the serologic detection of antibodies. Sometimes there are
histologic findings in liver or bone marrow biopsy also, but the changes
are non-specific."

Too bad one can't test for the bacteria. The presence of maternal
antibodies could give a false positive. I don't suppose there is any
epidemiological evidence as to outcomes of bf or not bf in this
situation? Any populations where Q fever is endemic, or common?
