Ironically, after our recent discussions on LN about LAM, I just had a call
from a woman which illustrates the difficulties in relying on the LAM method
without real specific info about it. Mother has a 4 month who started
sleeping through the night very early. She had her first period at 3 months
pp. Now she is 4 days late. The baby has started acting very unsatisfied at
breast and feeding much more frequently. Her understanding of LAM was she
couldn't get pregnant if her baby was under 6 months and she was
breastfeeding. I explained about the 24 hr stimulation issue and the early
menstrual bleeds issue. She did not know that. Her baby's frequent nursing
may have thrown her back into amenorrhea, but she needs to get a pregnancy
test immed. and to talk to the pediatrician about supplements for the older
baby if she conts. to bfeed him as her supply will (and may already have)
dropped off.
