<<The mother's liver can't handle the extra load of
pregnancy, and her bile salts are excreted through the pores. I had it
with
my first and third children. It is not benign, however; there is a high
rate of stillbirths correlated with it. There was a helpful study done
published in GUT, a British med journal, which showed a lower incidence
of
stillbirths and a resolution of the pruritis when mothers took Actigol.
But
she needs to start it asap, because it takes some time to work. I have
that
article somewhere.
It is a miserable condition, in which absolutely nothing alleviates the
pruritis, except delivery>>
I had it with my first as well. I had complete relief within a 24h
period when I started an intesive regimine of liver supportive herbs. 1
pint of burdock root, dandelion root, yellow dock root decoction - 1/2 c
four times per day. 2 quarts of nettle infusion as well.
Another client of our homebirth practice (I was an apprentice at the
time) was due the same day as I was. She developed cholestasis and
PUPPS about a week later than I did and much worse. She was completely
relieved of her symptoms within 48 hours.
I was suprised by how fast it worked.
