How are you USA folks getting over 90% bf rates??? I would love to hear
about bf rates at everyone's sites, USA and non-USA, but I'm especially
interested in Southern USA. You folks with very high rates, do you have data
for recent history, as in have the rates increased over the last 5-10 yrs?
Do you have any info on continuation rates? If you have been instrumental in
increasing the rates, what interventions were successful?
At my site in New Orleans, we have a predominantly African American
clientele with high rates of public assistance via the US Medicaid and WIC
programs. For about 100 births per month, we have 40-50% bf initiation and
we are not sure of continuation rates, but mothers often state they want to
bf for a few weeks or months only. Also several mothers drop out or d/c bf
even before hospital d/c.
What are the experiences of others?
