I'm a daily user of lactase enzyme caplets (such as Lactaid) as I have a
severe lactose intolerance. When Lactaid first became available as an over
the counter product, the caplets were all of the same strength. Now, I'm
sitting here with five different bottles in front of me, all different
brands with different strengths. Two brands have strengths of 3 caplets =
9,000 FCC Lactase Enzyme units. Two other brands have strengths of 2 caplets
= 9,000 FCC Lactase Enzyme units. One brand has strength of 1 caplet = 9,000
FCC Lactase Exzyme units. It can be very confusing for the user.

As a consumer I tend to purchase the higher strength caplets so I'm not
having to take so many at a time. But it also depends on availability and
price. There are many brands out there now and in most cases the local
brands are less expensive than the Lactaid brand.

I find that finding relief from the side effects of lactose intolerance is
very different from person to person. It's a process of experimentation with
foods and the lactase enzyme.
