I think the policy in our hospital is that we are not to accept items worth
over 25.00 from vendors (that doesn't stop some of the nurses from taking
the free formula from the reps though), and nothing of monetary value from
patients or clients. I have seen some patients give small gifts like a
picture frame with a baby photo or picture of that nurse and baby as a gift,
but most bring food - usually home made goodies of some sort but
occasionally they will send in bbq or pizza for the entire unit.
I think I would be inclined to return a gift card to the sender and thank
them profusely, but let them know that as a professional I cannot accept
such a gift.
Maybe your facility has a policy that deals with this.
