It's illegal to use a sliding scale for anything that Medicaid covers. You
can't charge them more than you would charge a client.

Unfortunately, I don't think hospitals can do this - I believe it
becomes "discriminatory". Insurance, if they cover, will say if we
can charge less to some, then that's all they will cover for
anyone. I fully agree that sliding scales are the most fair, and
certainly can be done in private practice and some clinic settings.
Is there anyone hopsital based that uses sliding scales? I would
certainly suggest it, but I won't be holding my breath for a
positive response!
