I agree with Cathy Genna.  I recall many years ago helping a mom as a LLL
Leader.  I  brought this woman into my home and kept her here for several
days until her problem resolved.  (My kids and husband to this day never
know when they might have to give up their room for a few days because we
have a new mom and baby coming to stay.)  Anyway, several weeks later, a
package arrived with a beautiful Mexican wool blanket as a thank you
present.  We don't do these extra things for money. No amount of money could
pay for the things we sometimes do in our profession!  I don't solicit or
expect gratuities.  But when people are grateful for
above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty help, saying a special thanks is a way for
them to feel good. Refusing this is ungracious.
