I am a mere lurker here. I'm a mom of 4, former post partum doula (at home since shortly before I had my 4th child/nursling, now 16 mo) who is comtemplating a career in the future as a possible LC and/or RN. I will resume my lurk stastis, but since I had an answer, I thought I'd share it.
Anyway, my 16 mo old had frenuloplasty done when he was 1 week for severe to complete tongue tie (raw nipples after 1st feeding and I'm a very experienced nurser as pp doula and involved with LLL, only able to "suck" foremilk as working harder to get hindmilk was too difficult for him, green poops, nursing 2 minutes every 15-20 mins around the clock). We had it done by an ENT and the cost was approximately $400 which was fortunately covered for us by insurance and we only ended up paying $20.
I should also note it was so easy for him. Literally 2 drops of blood, no crying (he was more upset getting his diaper changed afterward due to the cool air), and nearly immediate relief for both of us. I made the decision after my own research because I only heard conflicting information for various medical people. By the way, I'm in Connecticut, so I'm sure it may vary in cost in other parts of the country.

Lactnetters,
having just published the ankyloglossia article in Pediatrics with
Dr.Ballard, we've gotten a couple questions about cost of procedure. In
order to get a sense of what's being charged out there, could you
respond with this information? Emailing me privately would be helpful
as well.
Warmly,
Chris Auer,rn,ibclc
