Hello Lactnetters,
I have been away from email for a couple of days, but I still want to
respond to the osteoporosis post for everyone's benefit. I was diagnosed with
severe osteoporosis in January 2000. I was currently nursing my fifth child
who was five months old. After a great deal of research I decided to continue
breastfeeding. My now three year old daughter is still nursing and I have
regained 11% bone density as of last February. I have the bone density scan
yearly and expect to see similar results this year. I have treated the
problem with hormones, exercise, diet, supplements, homeopathics, and
magnetics. My personal opinion based on a case study of one is it is not
necessary to wean due to osteoporosis. I will be happy to provide the details
to anyone interested.
