Priscilla,
A good course of action is a "try it and see what happens" with very close follow up to monitor baby's weight gain and to continue to follow after the initial engorgement is over. A good book is "Breastfeeding after reduction". Even if she is unable to provide 100% of the baby's nourishment she may be able to provide some of it. She will also be more at risk for engorgement without an outlet for her milk in some areas of the breast.
