Recently I had a mother with four children. While breastfeeding the first
three, she had all the typical signs of oversupply, including repeated cases
of mastitis. The fouth she used unilateral feeds, not even limiting the time
per breast to some of the high numbers I have seen like 12 + hours. Baby
gained well, no mastitis. Her cycles were suppressed with the first three for
at least a year. The last she began a regular cycle at 6 weeks.
I wonder if mothers don't report the return of cycles or are using methods of
birth control that cause the cycles to return. I could not find any
information on the possible connection.
