When I transfered to the LC position here at my facility, I took a pretty
substancial pay loss. Leaving my position as a NICU nurse, I gave up my
critial care differential, shift differential, retention bonus, etc.
For me it is still worth it- I can be home nights with my kids, so I'm ok
with the cut in pay. I also really have enjoyed being able to develope a
totally new program that my facility has never had before.
I could have tried to hold out for more money but probably wouldn't have
been sucessful and lost the opportunity to make my little piece of
difference in breastfeeding support within a military facility. And- I no
longer have to try an do two jobs at once- NICU RN patient care and
hospital IBCLC breastfeeding resourse- I can now focus on the
breastfeeding support daily and completely.
My base salary is comparable to a same years experienced RN hired anywhere
within our facility- no frills or bonuses.
Lisa Jones RN RLC IBCLC
