Beloved Lactnetters,
I think the issue of guilt was discussed on Lactnet
some weeks or months ago...and I agree with those of
you who wrote in to clarify the difference between
*guilt* and *regret*. To reiterate: GUILT is knowing
something is *wrong*, and doing it anyway. REGRET is
doing something from ignorance (not knowing) and
feeling sadness in retrospect, "I wish I had known
better..."
As a HCP who has worked in women's health for years,
and as a woman who loves hearing birthing and
breastfeeding tales from other women, I have heard
countless women say they *regret they did NOT
breastfeed*. I have yet to hear any woman who
breastfed her children verbalize regret over *not
bottlefeeding*.
