Hello All!
I would love if the role of the LC in the hospital could be just as a
specialist and that they would only see the dyads that are having
difficulties. Unfortunately, this could not work at my hospital. Even
after numerous inservices, RNs especially the ones who have been around
for awhile, are very set in their ways. They "know" the correct answer to
put on a test, but then tell the mom what they always have, which is
incorrect, outdated info. You talk with them about it, but they still do
not change. It looks as if our up and coming Rns are not much better, I
have a freind in nursing school right now, and she felt that the
Breastfeeding info was horrible and her prof even cut down LLL, saying
that they are all a bunch of neo nazi breastfeeding counselors and that
you would never want to refer a mom to them for this reason. OUCH!
Doesn't give me much hope that the next generation of RNs will change.
