Rhoda says:
"We even had one unfortunate
incident where a woman was bottle feeding expressed milk in a local Tim
Hortons (a popular donut restaurant in Canada) when a man crossed the
restaurant to confront her about 'feeding poison to her
baby'..................."
Just because one person is so crass doesn't mean you should hold back on
supporting breastfeeding in public. In my opinion, the man in this
story was at fault, not the public breastfeeding promotion! If someone
approached a person in a wheelchair at a bar and made a comment about
the drinking possibly being to blame for the wheelchair (e.g. auto
accident), we wouldn't back off on condemning drinking and driving would
we? As we make these small gains in public acceptance, we have to avoid
being overly sensitive.
"So now we are trying to
educate our community that method of feeding is none of anyone's
business
except the family's whether it is bottle feeding at a month or
breastfeeding at 6 years."
Excellent, please don't be intimidated and back off on promoting
breastfeeding as normal because of one insensitive idiot!
