Of course, a peds is thinking of a normal situation and suggesting the no
feeds at night for the child. I went through this with mine when she still
wanted to nurse at night! She was hungry! BUT, this child is going
through an enormous change so feeding/waking for comfort/reassurance sounds
reasonable to me! Plus, if she is tiny, she probably needs the calories. I
too am hungry through the night...I am just big enough to get up, go to the
kitchen, get a snack and back to bed...
I would suggest to the parents to follow their insticnts. If waking and
feeding is not what they want, then fine, help them find a solution with all
the usual tactics for stopping night feedings. But, if they just
reassurrance, they got it from me, and probably lots of other --feeding at
night--moms!
