Pat Young hits it on the head. It is One Infection, affecting a dyad which
consists of two persons.

Just out of curiosity: if a urologist discovers chlamydia in a male patient,
does she hesitate to prescribe treatment for his partner(s), and is the
hesitation affected by the partner's gender? Or, if a gynecologist
discovers an STD in a patient, does she decline to treat the male(s) in the
equation?

Gentian violet is not a prescription drug here, nor are the topical agents
to treat thrush, and with these agents one can neatly side-step the whole
can of worms of who should prescribe. The most common problem encountered
here for women bothered by thrush is that many clinicians don't know it
exists, or if they do, think it can be treated with flat seltzer water or
baking soda or 'thrush juice' (no idea what is in this, but it used to be
rampant here). Among docs who know what thrush is, it is never a problem to
get prescription for all involved parties in the infection. They would not
even understand why this issue as described in recent posts, comes up at
all.

Also, has any physician considered the risk exposure in declining to write a
prescription for mother or for baby, only to be sued because the
breastfeeding went down the drain, with documentable harmful sequelae, as a
result of complications of thrush? Bet not.

Harrumph.
