Heather, you forgot to mention that the shield available on prescription
(and also for sale in my local pharmacy) is a rigid plastic base with a
nipple attached.  It costs just over £1, so might look a 'bargain'.  As far
as I am concerned, this belongs in a museum (maybe the York dungeon?) but it
is available for mothers.  When I bought one, the assistant said nowt.  When
I went back and bought 4 (as visiaul aids for colleagues) she did say 'Is
there a problem?' but accepted my assurances that I was not intending to use
the antiquated things.

Probably the refrain 'nipple shileds in the UK' is best sung to the tune of
the Sex Pistols' song 'Anarchy in the UK', with similar delivery of the
lyrics.
