To give an idea of how useful weighing before and after nursing can be,
I thought I'd experiment today at my 3 week post-partum visit with the
midwife (well, Nyssa's almost 4 weeks already! but...).
I put Nyssa in a brand new disposable diaper...clean...and she had on
one baby pyjama. I weighed her immediately after changing her diaper,
and she was 9 lbs 7 oz (a gain of almost 2.5 lbs since birth). I nursed
her and immediately re-weighed her without changning clothes or diaper,
on the SAME scale, and she was 9 lbs 8 oz. I theoricized that she must
have drunk near an ounce or so for a snack. ;-) Fine...
I walked around with her for a while, and she eventually wanted to nurse
again. I kept the same clothes and same diaper as before, so as not to
substract any urine or whatever from the balance. ;-)
Re-nursed, and then re-weighed...and she was 9 lbs 4 oz!!! On the same
scale! How does one figure that???
