Hi Yall
Just wanted to add a note from our NICU's dietician. After reading the
messages about HMF after discharge I wanted to varrify my previous message.
She stated that our unit does not use HMF after discharge. The main reason
is the expence ($1.00 per packet). If there is a need for extra calories
powder "Enfacare or Neosure" is added to breast milk. She also stressed
that this is a very RARE occurance. She also concured that most our infants
are weaned to straight expresed breastmilk 2-4 weeks before discharge.
Moste infants do not need more calores/Kg.
I know that AF is not an accepted part of supporting breastfeeding but is a
rearly used substitute at a more reasonable price.
Hope this is helpful.
