Hi Lactnetters. I happened to read about dr. Karp book in a women magazine
at the hairdresser'( where I fill up). There were several photos about
the "5 s'",and one of them was about a neatly swaddled infant with a
pacifier stuck in her mouth. That did not impress me...besides, he said
that the his method works in the first 3 mos. And thereafter?

Dear Ms. Armeni,
As you will see in my book and video, I am a staunch supporter of
breastfeeding. However, even Dr. Sears acknowledges a role for pacifiers in
"The Baby Book", If used sensibly and used for baby who has intense sucking
needs - in addition to, not as a substitute for, human nurturing - pacifiers
are an acceptible aid."
My approach is based on ancient wisdom, much the same as the the nursing
techniques we all have committed ourselves to pass on to new mothers. And,
since 20-25% of babies in the West cry for more than 3 hours a day and since
this cryig can lead to exhaustion, depression, breastfeeding failure,
marital discord and even abuse....and since my techniques can usually calm a
crying young baby in minutes (or less)...I hope you will consider soothing
babies in the first 3 months of life a worthy goal!
