Beste Lacnetters,

Are you aware of the study measuring silicone (using silicon as the proxy)
in breastmilk done by Semple et al 1998? It's interesting because it shows
that in this study there is no difference between the silicone levels in
milk from women with or without silicone breast implants. They also measured
cow's milk and artificial infant formula (excuse the double negative ;-) and
in infant formula (26 different products measured) it was 4402ng/ml versus
55ng/ml in milk from mothers with implants - more that 80 times higher.

Now, we've been grumbling on (and quite rightly) about less than good
research, but this kind of takes the biscuit doesn;t it? That breastmilk has
to be measured because of fears of silicone in breastmilk, when actually
it's the artificial milk that we should be publishing research about.

(ps I'm not grumbling about Semples study:

Implants: Preliminary Results Using Silicon as a Proxy Measurement for
Silicone. Plast Reconstr Surg 1998; 102: 528-533. )
