Hi Ellen,
Very interesting case. This woman turned out to have many more
needs than what first presented! That happens sometimes. I have learned
to really LISTEN to moms and dads, and ask questions to explore and
clarify the pt's goals. Yes, i would have given her the sns and
instructed on use, perhaps start with inexpensive syringe/fdg. tube kind,
but maybe not. I usually tell a mom that some women really like using
sns and some find it cumbersome and difficult and don't like it, to give
her the freedom to go either way and be realistic about what will work
for her.
I hope she goes along with the compromise to weigh baby only once per
day, which is still obsessive, and to look at swallowing and diapers.
Feel free to tell us the progress on this baby.
