Support Breastfeeding Moms

Last month, Abbe Dotson was walking through the Santa Monica Place mall
breastfeeding her infant child when she was harassed by a mall security
guard for not "covering up." Ms. Dotson is not the first woman to be
harassed and/or asked to leave a public location for breastfeeding, even
though California law specifically protects a woman's right to breastfeed in
public.

To support Ms. Dotson and every mother's right to breastfeed in public and
to bring attention to the breastfeeding law in California, the California
Women's Law Center and the Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los0 Angeles
are holding a "nurse-in" at the Santa Monica Mall.

Date: July 17, 2002

Time: 11 a.m.

Place: Food Court of Santa Monica Mall - Broadway and Santa Monica Blvd.

What to wear: to show solidarity, please wear a white shirt and jean pants

What to do: Nursing mothers should sit in the food court in the mall, which
is located at Broadway and Santa Monica. Nurse your child if you are a
nursing mother or be present to show support even if you are not. Please
remember that this is a peaceful show of support and an educational
campaign. We are not having a demonstration or a rally regarding the pros
and cons of breastfeeding. A doctor will be present to speak to the press
about breastfeeding. We hope to include the mall's management in our effort
to educate the public.

Please email Nancy Solomon at the California Women's Law Center if you plan
on attending: [log in to unmask]

Nursing mothers and all who support them are welcome!

Please arrive early, as parking and space may be limited.

PLEASE NOTE: If you send this email to other people, please respect their
privacy and blind copy them (i.e., bcc recipients).
