I had a phone call from a mom who says her 9 month old refuses to
nurse--bites her if he does latch on, once a hard enough bite to draw
blood. He is eating a lot of solids (a la the pediatrician), is
teething, and will only take a little breastmilk by sippy cup. Mom says
he is having lots of wet diapers, but she and I are concerned about fluid
intake. How much does a 9 month old need? I know he's getting fluids in
his other foods, but how much more does he need? She is able to use
breastmilk to make his cereal, so she is getting some breastmilk into him
that way.
TIA,
Pat Bucknell, IBCLC
