Diane writes: She's 43. In an unscientific
response, I told her my neighbor of about the same age has been experiencing
PMS lately, when she never had it before. And in a more scientific vein I
told her menstrual issues tend to smooth out with bfing, and perhaps the PMS
is related to the gradual *decline* in bfing, more than to the bfing itself.
She hadn't thought of that and said her child has indeed been nursing less
lately.
But I also told her I'd ask the experts. Your thoughts?
Diane, I think you're right on with this one. She's probably moving straight
from bfdg into perimenopause. I believe she could take Zoloft or another
SSRI for just the period of time each month she is suffering from PMS. I
think Prozac is marketed under another name just for that purpose. If she
has obtained relief from Zoloft, I agree with you, she should try it again
after talking it over with her physician. She also might try a different SSRI.
