It's funny/weird how we'll be discussing something intensively
on the net and then someone waltzes in to my once-a-week clinic
with exactly that problem! Last Monday, while I was trying to
deal with this mom who probably had candida, having no problem
with HER, but trying to figure out a way of getting her FP to
treat her.......(how DARE an LC suggest a diagnosis to a
Professor of Medicine??).... anyhow, someone starts pounding on
the door. Amazingly, it was someone looking for ME (a minor
miracle in that clinic). I asked her to wait, which she did for
maybe 10 minutes before the pounding resumed. Finally sent the
first mom off (with a prayer for her success) and admitted the
door-pounder. She was sans baby, which surprised me. I asked
where the baby was, and she said he was at pre-nursery. I blinked
rapidly a few times. What was her problem? Her son, #3 child, was
20 months old, and "everyone" tells her it's time to stop bfing.
Her doctor told her that she "deserved a medal" (aaaargh! when
I hear that, my teeth curl!). We talked a bit, and she relaxed
considerably. She was really tense after all that door-
pounding!!! It would happen to anyone..... Anyhow, it came out
that Junior tended to "cough" quite a bit. Ah, ha! Now I've got
an "excuse" for mom to present to the world to continue bfing.
Sigh. Isn't this a sad story, really? Her face lit up so when she
talked about how extended nursing has made her feel so very close
to this child. Just in case I was reading her all wrong, I gave
her suggestions how to get Junior to sleep through the night
(she's a working mom and really looked pooped). I did tell her,
with a pat on the arm, that she didn't rate a medal, yet.......
Great stories, everyone. I'm not too proud of mine, so still
weighing coming clean. Judy Knopf, who also doesn't win any
medals
