I am not aware of any particular hand-outs or posters, but do want to correct some misinformation that has been posted on Lacnet. First, eating a heathy diet should always be the issue, not discussion of a particular type of diet. Otherwise, the implication is that a particular diet is a "risk" in some way. One of the books I like and have referred others to is Jay Gordon's book, "Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow".
The belief that lacto-vegetarians are in some way less at risk nutritionally shows a lack of education about vegetarians and nutrition. One should never make the assumption that b/c the food designed for infant cows is a part of the diet, that it is in any way whole, complete or healthy. Further, Frances Moore Lappe herself long ago discarded the outdated theory that food-combining is in any way necessary or even beneficial for a vegetarian.
I have been vegan for 13 years, so all of my children have been vegan from birth. We use a B12 supplement and when they go through stages where they want to live on air (currently my 4 year old) or are growing like weeds (my 13 year old), we supplement as seems appropriate with food based sources of vitamins/minerals. There are healthy vegan diets, healthy vegetarian diets and healthy omnivore diets.
