Subject: hormones, DHA and AA

Hi Lactnetters,

It's good to be back on Lactnet after a many month hiatus.

The recent news on hormone replacement therapy should give even greater pause to those doctors, hospitals and parents who would jump on the DHA/AA- fortified formula bandwagon. I can't help but be struck by the
similar reasoning--providing a synthetic form of a naturally occurring substance in hopes of mimicking the naturally occurring effect. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't we have even less research supporting the benefits of fortifying formula than we had on the benefits of estrogen?

If I were an executive or stockholder at Mead Johnson, I'd be feeling a wee bit uneasy right now...

Ellen,

As a returnee to Lactnet, check out the recent (last 3 weeks or so) postings about the source of the DHA in formula (genetically engineered fungus, essentially). It will add fuel to your fire.

Julie Rosen, fellow LLLL in NJ and lawyer, too!!!
