There are lots of ways to have sliding scales or
different membership types for different members
of an organization. I am a social worker and NASW
has memberhsip categories like student member,
retired member, unemployed, and I think there
is a difference by which degree you have
(bachelors, masters or Ph.D.) but I'm not sure
about that.
If ILCA is thinking about different membership
categories, models from other similar professional
organization should be easily accessible.

I agree with Pam that different catergories
might help increase membership. There seem to be
2 issues:
1. the benefits of being in the organization are different
depending on your profession. For example, I am not a clinician,
do not have IBCLC and am not planning to get IBCLC. The issues
and politics of professionalizing LCs is of interest to me,
but my livelihood doesn't depend on it.
2. Different people have different economic situations and demands.
A sliding scale or some similar arrangement would be helpful for
people who want to be involved and have membership, but can't
afford the full fee.

It is beneficial to ILCA to have a larger membership as well. Aside
from the financial issues, larger membership means more clout.

Is this on the agenda for the ILCA membership commmittee?
