Hi,
A mom with Hep C called our clinic line last week with the following
concern. She is breastfeeding a 3 1/2 month old and doing well. She has a
lump in her breast that never changes and the surgeon wants to do a needle
aspiration. She is concerned that this will cause some bleeding that will
get into her breastmilk and possibly infect the baby. I gave her
information on San Diego Breastfeeding Coalition site. Anyone have any
other information I can give to her about safety of continuing to breastfeed
on this breast after surgery or on length of time to pump and dump?
I also need information on where to find printed guidelines on breastmilk
storage in the NICU. We are having a disagreement on whether it should be
stored in the refrigerator with food or with the medicine. We do not have a
dedicated freezer for breastmilk. I have searched Lactnet archives, CDC and
other sites and not found anything. Thanks so much for your help! Judith
