"The connection is that in most places in the US, paretns are told not to
bathe a baby before the umbilicus falls off. This erects a barrier to using
the low tech, high touch, low cost, convenient, highly effective technique of
co-bathing to help reluctant babies latch on." Cathy
And this is precisely why I brought this up so thank you Cathy. I haven't
been able to read LN for the past few days so present myself as the
perpertrator of the cord care discussion. Mary Kay just mentioned one small
thing about cord care and I jumped in because as stated above I am
continually frustrated with HCP's who tell moms no bathing for babies before
the cord falls off and no bathing for them for six weeks. Therefore, my
suggestion to co-bathe to facilitate latch in a non-latching baby rarely is
acted upon.
