I've always used the plian Indonesian sling (slendang), used in a European
way. It is a piece of cotton cloth (batik or woven in a stretchy way) about
90cm x 210cm, in the middel taken together and hung over the shoulder. Then a
good knot eitting on the bone of the hip opposite of the shoulder where the
sling hangs. Turn the knot to the back and drape the cloth over the hole widt
of the shoulder. The child can either sit or lie in it and nursing is easy.
The sling with the sitting child in it can even be turned to mom's back (I've
done quite some cooking and baking that way). Once the child is positioned
the edge of the cloth that comes from the upper part of the child (the part
facing mother's face) is crossed over the other edge of the cloth and over
the shoulder to the upper arm. Once knotted it can stay that way.
It is the simplest and cheapest sling I know And I never weanted any other.
Warmly greeting,
Gonneke
