Seems Christy brought up a topic that many of us are in agreement about;
namely that it is mom's decision. My experience with this situation was
when a CLE in the NICU decided that it was cruel to have mom pump.
She "forbade" our LC team from contacting this woman. I hadn't known of
this baby. All I knew was I had a mom call me from the NICU wanting info
on pumping. She had been asking different people about wanting to pump for
a few days and had been handed off every time. I spoke to her very briefly
(due to time/staffing constraints) to discuss it. I left a msg for the
next LC on duty to please follow up. The next day I was reamed out by the
CLE; for stepping on her turf, I guess. Baby did die a couple of days
later, before I worked again. I doubt that mom ever did start pumping. I
felt the whole thing was very dishonest. There apparently never was any
doubt that this baby would die, but maybe someone could have had a real
discussion with this mom before making a decision for her.
