This was from Brian Palmers site - he cited a study done by a post grad
student, I think. FWIW, my son had similar dental problems as the mom in
the original post - the decay came on suddenly at age 2 following a
horrendous yeast infection, and stopped after we finally treated him
with a combo of diflucan and GV. However, no-one but me seems to see
this link to the yeast infection as valid. His twin sister, who has all
of the same dietary, oral hygiene and night nursing habits has no decay,
and did not have the same extent of oral yeast.... It is a study waiting
to happen - I just don't know how to do it..

Subject: Sears dental caries comment

Actually, the only thing I found surprising in the Sears article was his
comment "After all, breastmilk is a very sweet and naturally sugary
substance," implying that breastmilk itself causes dental carries.

I revisited Dr. Palmer's web presentation on dental carries at
http://www.brianpalmerdds.com/caries.htm
which makes an anthropological case for breastmilk not causing dental
carries apart from diet.

Also, does anyone else remember reading a study done on dental carries
where teeth were dissolved in water, sugar water, breastmilk, and
breastmilk mixed with sugar water. The teeth in breastmilk and the
teeth in water showed no decay, the sugar water showed decay, and the
breastmilk with sugar water had the worst decay of all. Did I read this
on one of LLLI's Breastfeeding Fact sheets? I did a Medline search and
wasn't able to find the study...
