Jennifer asks:
"I'm not sure I understand this comparison - whose
intestinal tracts are colonized faster? Are they
comparing a breastfed baby to a cesarean born baby
making the assumption that the c-section baby was
formula fed??
I agree, the wording is confusing. My understanding
is that the baby born vaginally (who is exposed to
mother's intestinal tract during bith) will have a
colonized intestinal tract (thanks to mom, thanks to
the vaginal birth). If this is still confusing,
perhaps someone from the birth arena could help me be
more graphic...
As Valerie points out, "Bifidobacterium is only found
in the human intestine."
My, my, another "benefit" to vaginal birth...
