When mums are finding breastfeeding difficult, time consuming, painful
and not what they imagined, I was wondering how this could be likened to
those first few weeks/months of pregnancy when mums feel tired,
nauseous, achy and uncomfortable. Could we ask them "after the first
couple of days feeling rotten did you think well if that's pregnancy
it's not for me, I want out," did you think about ending the pregnancy
and deciding that you would never have children ? Most people would say
no, that the benefits of having a baby are worth the sometimes many
months of discomfort and they just kept focusing on that aim, which was
8 months in the future. I wonder if this approach would give mums some
more confidence and hope that their breastfeeding difficulties will
probably resolve, with irreplaceable benefits, but that patience and
perseverance are vital.
