Permission to post to Lactnet received from mother. Background Information:

Abnormal pap smear pre-pregnancy. Mom got pregnant. Decided to wait until
after birth to biopsy. After birth, in April 2002, biopsy showed 2 lesions
with moderate dysplasia. On May 9, LEEP surgery done (cervix was
cauterized.) Tissues were sent to lab and specimen showed no abnormalities.
On May 19, mom began to bleed. Mom suspected menses. Went in for exam 2 -
3 days later and was informed that the bleeding was due to the scab falling
off. There were 3 "pinholes" on cervix where blood was coming from and she
was told that this is not uncommon. On May 23, bleeding began again. Mom
had an unknown procedure phonetically spelled as "montcells." A mustard
yellow, saline solution was applied to cervix to form a scab and stop
bleeding.

Two additional times, couple of days apart the saline solution was applied
again. On May 30, mom began passing clots of blood the size of her fist.
Goes to the hospital. Pelvic ultrasound shows no abnormality. Hospital
declared that she has a "clean bill of health." No abnormalities, no
tumors, etc. Found the "bleeders" at the top of the uterus, cauterized and
stitched..

May 31, mom began bleeding again. Mom is unsure of details but says a "wire
screen" was put on the cervix and packed with gauze. This is supposed to
cause scabbing.

Mom is on self-imposed bed rest (Dr. said it is OK to walk around, lift the
15# baby.) Mom is currently experiencing a small amount of brownish
discharge. Dr #1 says breastfeeding may be part of the problem because
"when you are breastfeeding your are more 'alive down there' like when you
are pregnant and a lot of blood is being funneled to that area." Dr. #2
says her "estrogen level is through the roof." (This is from a pelvic
exam - not a blood test.) Dr. #2 additionally says that "after birth the
cervix pulls inward which is normal and now the exposed area is more
fragile."

Mom asks what to do about breastfeeding. Dr. says let's "wait 2 weeks and
see what happens. Breastfeeding is good for mom and baby." Mom is
concerned that continuing breastfeeding may contribute to problems and wants
to quit now if there are any problems from the breastfeeding.

Birth was c-section for cord around baby's neck & trunk. Mom takes no daily
medication other than iron supplements started 2 days ago.

All feedback welcome. Please post to the list as well as privately to
