I have a mother who asked me what to be aware of when clipping the frenulum
of her baby. (Her baby was diagnosed as tongue-tied at birth and subsequent
bf resulted in bleeding nipples after first week postpartum. Baby's ped,
along with an IBCLC, recommended frenulum clip.) I passed on to her about
the anesthetic suggestion that I read in someone's previous post. Now I read
that anesthetic is NOT a good idea b/c of baby's need and probable desire to
nurse after clipping procedure. What is the consensus professionally about
this issue? I'd like to give her as much info as possible so that she can
make an informed choice. By the way, her ped will not clip the frenulum and
has suggested her using an ENT. Any helpful tips on this as well?

Thanks,

Jessica Harrison Carlyon, MBA, CD, CLE
